The appalling wild women of the west

Prohibition orders preventing people with criminal convictions from entering licensed premises were introduced in Western Australia in 2009, and recent figures show that women are more and more involved in alcohol and drug induced violence in pubs and clubs, and outdoing the men. During the last six months from the 11 prohibition orders handed out by courts in Perth, 6 involved women. That is indeed a worrying trend.

Eva Scolaro, a former model, was the first woman who got banned from pubs and clubs in Western Australia. She was released on parole from Bandyup Women Prison after having only spent six of her twelve months sentence for glassing another woman in a vicious nightclub attack. The victim needed 60 stitches, required plastic surgery, and will have ongoing treatment and therapy for her physical and mental injuries.

Although the Australian Hotel Association of WA asked for an extension of the ban on Scolaro, surprisingly no application to alter the order was made by police.

There are many reports of violence between women, from glassing to bashing, even the use of stiletto heels to smash up the face of an opponent, with police saying young women are often very aggressive and as likely to abuse them and engage in violence as young men are.

Walking through the nightlife entertainment areas of the city, it is quite unbelievable to see very well dressed beautiful young women, all made up for a good night out, drink to excess and behave absolutely appallingly. They swear and scream, vomit, stumble, fall over, and lay on the street unable to get up. There is nothing at all pretty or attractive about them, and the high risk is that they’ll get treated with disrespect because they don’t respect themselves.

According to the executive director of the WA Drug and Alcohol Office, 43 percent of Western Australians drink alcohol at a level that puts them at risk.

We will all be paying for that because the health system will have to deal with it. Already emergency departments in hospitals are stretched to the limit on weekends because of drunks and victims of violence, and drink driving related car crashes.
