Drink Tank

2017 in review: Evidence over ideology

You’re in for a treat this summer. To farewell 2017 and welcome in the New Year, FARE’s Drink Tank team is showcasing the best of 2017; a selection of the most robust and interesting conversations from preventive health experts, researchers and practitioners for your reading pleasure.

Today we’re focusing on lockout laws and other unpopular truths about alcohol.

In this Drink Tank piece, freelance journalist Corrine Barraclough believes it’s time we all face unpopular truths, take necessary action, and start actioning strategies that can actually make progress.

She says that while it might be an uncomfortable truth for a nation in love with booze, alcohol does cause violence and there are specific recommendations that need government backing to ensure positive change.

Drink Tank aims to generate meaningful commentary and debate about alcohol policy, and to provide a platform for all members of the Australian community to share their views and concerns.

Our goal is for the Drink Tank community to engage in robust discussion about alcohol, highlighting a broad spectrum of views and voices, and ultimately to raise the profile of alcohol as an issue of national importance.
