2017 in review: Big Alcohol

You’re in for a treat this summer. To farewell 2017 and welcome in the New Year, FARE’s Drink Tank team is showcasing the best of 2017; a selection of the most robust and interesting conversations from preventive health experts, researchers and practitioners for your reading pleasure.

In today’s Drink Tank piece, Gary Schwitzer from Health News Review shines a spotlight on a New York Times story that highlights how the alcoholic beverage industry continues to strategically promote the alcohol-is-good-for-you message by not only funding journalism to sway public opinion, but also supporting scientific meetings and nurturing budding researchers in the field.

Mr Schwitzer says that the decision to let the alcohol industry pick up the tab has raised concern and questions among researchers and alcohol-policy advocates.
